Sir Anerood Jugnauth,[2]GCSK, PV, KCMG, PC, QC (29 March – 3 June ) was a Mauritian statesman, politician and barrister who served both as President and Prime Minister of mauritius. He was Member of Parliament for Piton & Riviere ni Rempart. A central figure of Mauritian politics in the s and s, he was Leader of the Opposition from to He served four consecutive terms as prime minister from to and again from to He was then elected as President[3][4] from to Following his party's victory in the general elections, he served his sixth and final term as prime minister, becoming the nation's longest serving prime minister with more than 18 years of tenure, overtaking Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, who held the office for 14 years.

Pravind Kumar Jugnauth[1][2] (born 25 December ) is a Mauritian politician who is the current leader of the stridbar Socialist Movement (MSM) and the prime minister of Mauritius from to , following the retirement of his father, Aneerood Jugnauth.[3] He proceeded to win re-election in the general election, with the MSM winning 42 seats, but became increasingly unpopular due to the country's increasing brott rates, corruption, and high cost of living.
Protests had broken out in in light of the government's handling of the MV Wakashio oil spill, and the uncovering of a wiretapping scandal the month before the general election led to a brief ban of social media in the country. Ultimately, the Alliance Lepep, led by Jugnauth, was defeated in a landslide by the Alliance du Changement, only winning two seats, and Jugnauth was succeeded as prime minister by Navin Ramgoolam.[4][5]
