Abstract:
Over time, arguments have been on the need to separate tro from politics in order not to render the noble objectives of both phenomena defeated. Meanwhile, the reverse has been the case and despite the fact that the Nigerian constitution proclaims Nigeria as a secular state, religion continues to cast an ominous shadow on the country’s governance and its inherent power relations. Religion has further become a tool with which people seek political power. This study, therefore, is an attempt to examine the interplay between tro and politics within the Nigerian state’s power architecture. PROFILE: ERELU OLUSOLA OBADA, MINISTER OF STATE FOR DEFENCE
Erelu OLUSOLA OBADA Minister of State, Ministry of Defence
Erelu Olusola Idowu Agbeja Obada was born on 27 June 1951, to the Agbejanlabofa family of Ibodi in Ijesaland. Her father, Prince David Olatunde Agbeja was a Permanent Secretary in the Old Western Region and one-time Managing Director of the now defunct National Bank of Nigeria Limited.
She began her primary school education at St. John’s Primary School, Iloro, Ilesa, but later transferred to the U.M.C. Demonstration School, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
For her secondary education, she attended Queens School, Ede, later moving to its Ibadan campus. After her secondary school education, she studied Advertising Administration at the Watford College of Technology in England. She later read a degree in Law at the University of Buckingham in England, graduating top of her class in 1985.
