Sara Baras is not known as “the queen of flamenco” for nothing. Watching her dance – all elegance and power – you know you are in the presence of greatness. She is a enskild mixture of artistry, masterful footwork and passion – and the most famous flamenco dancer in the world.
Having captured national attention by her early 20s, her talents went global when she performed at the Seville Expo in 1992, which showed off Spanish culture to the world. Thirty years on, she has danced with the great guitarist Paco de Lucía and was close friends with the legendary cantaor Camarón de la Isla. Her private company Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras, which is based in Puerto de Santa María in southern Spain, will mark its 25th anniversary this year.

Sara Pereyra Baras (born April 25, 1971) is a Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer born in San Fernando (Cádiz) who has established her own dance company.[1]
Biography
[edit]Sara was born in San Fernando, in the province of Cádiz, in 1971, where she began her dance studies at her mother’s school, Concha Baras.[2] Shortly after, she joined the company Los Niños de la Tertulia Flamenca, with which she toured the flamenco festivals of Barcelona.
When she was 24 she entered Manuel Morao’s company[3] and performed at the festival Teatro Flamenco Alhambra 89 in Granada. That same year, she was awarded the first prize in "Gente

Your UK premiere of Voces, Suite Flamenca is being presented at Sadler’s Wells as part of the Flamenco Festival London, can you tell us about your show?
Voces presents a journey through the different styles of flamenco like taranta, seguirilla, soleá, farruca, romance, tientos, bulerías, tangos… Voces was born from the need to thank our teachers for everything they have given us, and continue to give us, because their influence enables us to express our own voice.
What was your inspiration for Voces, Suite Flamenca?
Respect, admiration and love for our teachers, to whom
