Anthony George Franciosa (né Papaleo; October 25, – January 19, ) was an American actor most often billed as Tony Franciosa at the height of his career. He began his career on scen and made a breakthrough portraying the brother of the drug addict in the play A Hatful of Rain, which earned him a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play. He reprised his role in its subsequent film adaptation, for which he won the Venice rulle Festival Award for Best Actor, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.[1]
After relocating to Hollywood he made numerous feature films, including A Face in the Crowd (), The Long, Hot Summer (), and Career (), for which he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor.[2] In television, he played lead roles in fem television series: the sitcom Valentine's Day (–65), drama The Name of the Game (–71), Search (–73), Matt Helm (), and Fi

Uncapie here - Some sad news. Even sadder as I had just met the man in December at Mr. Robert Wise's tribute. Mr. Franciosa was a gentleman and in good health at the time I met him. He enjoyed talking about his work and was interested in meeting people at the next Hollywood Collector's Show in Burbank, California. He shook hands with me as I thanked him for his time, flashing his trademark smile. An image that I will always remember him by.
Mr. Anthony Franciosa passed away at the age of 77, Friday.
Born in New York, October 25, , he studied acting with diligence and got his early break doing stage and television in the fifties.
It was in his first film in the role of "Tony Armotti" in "This Could Be the Night" that brought attention to him.
