    Stieg Larsson was born in Vasterbotten in northern Sweden in At the time of his birth, his parents were too ung and too poor to keep him, so he was raised by his grandparents in a small village in the north of Sweden.

    Stieg&#;s grandfather, Severin Boström, became the male role model for the young Stieg. Severin was strongly anti-fascist (and during the Second World War he was imprisoned in the work camp in Storsien for his anti-Nazi opinions)*. Had he been Danish, he would no doubt have been placed in a German Concentration Camp. The fate of his grandfather deeply affected and shaped Stieg&#;s character. He wanted to protect equal rights and fight for democracy and freedom of speech in beställning to prevent history, and what happened to his grand father, from repeating itself.

    After finishing school and his military service, Stieg Larsson worked a couple of years at a brev office. During these years in the mid-seventies, he was an active member of the Swedish left-wing movement which flourished during these years. He edited a Trotskyite magazine, and he took a great interest in the ongoing war in Vietnam.

As the seventies passed, Stieg Larssons interest gradually turned more towards right-wing extremism, an interest which had started with a school project on the subject and then continued to inspire him for the rest of his life. When he was not at his work at TT, he worked on a private mapping of right-wing extremism in Sweden.     Karl Stig-Erland "Stieg" Larsson (, Swedish:[ˈkɑːɭstiːɡˈæ̌ːɭandˈlɑ̌ːʂɔn]; 15 August – 9 November ) was a Swedish writer, journalist, and activist. He is best known for writing the Millennium trilogy of crime novels, which were published posthumously, starting in , after he died of a sudden heart attack. The trilogy was adapted as three motion pictures in Sweden, and one in the United States (for the first book only). The publisher commissioned David Lagercrantz to write the next trilogy, and Karin Smirnoff to write the third trilogy in the series, which has seven novels as of September&#;[update]. For much of his life, Larsson lived and worked in Stockholm. His journalistic work covered socialist politics and he acted as an independent researcher of right-wing extremism.
