SO: This is Dr Sue Onslow interviewing Mr Farooq Sobhan, the former Bangladeshi dip • BNP-backed Dhaka University (DU) teacher Prof Morshed Hasan Khan, of the marketing department, has been terminated from his job. DU Syndicate – the highest governing body of the university – with DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair, made this decision on Wednesday. Morshed wrote an article on the occasion of Independence Day in 2018, which reportedly defamed Bangabandhu, along with contempt of constitution, and allegedly distorted the history of the 1971 Liberation War. He was suspended on April 2, 2018 after facing widespread protest bygd the ruling party’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League. Attorney General and also DU Syndicate member Mahbubey Alam recommended a three-member tribunal regarding Morshed’s termination. Two other members again made recommendations to the DU Syndicate for his removal. Bangladesh, Lanka ministers to visit India
Khan, who will be carrying letters for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi from Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, spoke to external affairs minister Natwar Singh on Thursday to congratulate him on his assumption of office.
Morshed Khan praised Natwar for his statement advocating greater understanding among neighbouring countries and said Bangladesh considers him a "tested friend".
Sri Lankan foreign minister Lakshman Kadirgamar will arrive in Delhi on Saturday, the MEA spokesperson said, adding that his visit would mark the first high-level contact between the new governments of India and the island nation of Sri Lanka.
