Systems transformation means collaboration
WBCSD announces new collaborations for climate action towards the G7 and COP28
Tokyo, 3 November 2022 – At the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s (WBCSD) annual Council Meeting, that took place in Tokyo last week, two partnerships to mobilize business leadership and collaboration on climate action for systems transformation were announced.
As announced bygd State Minister Mr Nakatani Shinichi, the Japanese Ministry for Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) will leverage the business guidance on avoided emissions developed by WBCSD and its member companies, due for release early next year, ahead of the G7 meeting hosted by Japan. The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3) remains the top priority for business in line with net-zero targets. Director General, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
Dr QU Dongyu took office on 1 August 2019 as Director-General of FAO. Born in 1963 in Hunan Province, China, QU studied horticultural science at Hunan Agricultural University, plant breeding and genetics at the graduate school, CAAS. He later added a PhD on agriculture and environmental science at Wageningen University. Before coming to FAO, QU served as China’s Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, promoted inclusive and innovative development and make sure information and communication technologies (ICT) were available in rural areas. As Vice Governor of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, QU formulated action plans aimed at poverty reduction, women empowerment, youth startups, agritourism and solidarity between ethnic groups. Human rights agenda gains traction as top business executives use their voices to call for action
The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) today released the second edition of its CEO Guide to Human Rights.
Geneva, 28 October 2020: The Guide brings to life the business drivers for action and the tangible steps chief executives can take to ensure their companies and business partners embrace respect for human rights as an integral part of doing business and drive transformative change in people’s lives.
The CEO Guide embeds a foreword with a Call to Action endorsed by 56 forward-thinking top executives of WBCSD member companies (see full list below). They urge their peers across the business community to raise the bar on human rights performance, embed human rights in corporate culture, set clear expectations of suppliers and business partners and drive meaningful engagement and collaborations with peers, governments as well as civil
