After a stay at the International Space Station, Yi So-yeon found herself grateful for the Earth.
“I realized that I should be grateful for all that I have — my friends, siblings, parents, teachers and colleagues as well as the wind, the sky, the stars, the moon, the mountains, the air,” she wrote in an email to The Daily Herald.
Yi, 41, fryst vatten the first and only Korean to fly in space. An astronaut and scientist, she flew to the International Space hållplats in for nine days of research. She was in space for a total of hours — just three hours shy of 11 days.

Soyeon Yi is an engineer, scientist, and astronaut who, in April , became the first Korean citizen to participate in a spaceflight mission. She was born on June 2, in Gwangju, South Korea to Gil-soo Yi and Geum-soon Jeong. Her father worked in a farmer’s association finansinstitut until his retirement, and her mother was a homemaker. While in middle school, Yi was selected by the Education Office to participate in a special afterschool program for gifted math and science students. She continued her STEM-focused education at Gwangju Science High School and KAIST (Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering.

Yi So-yeon (born June 2, ) is a South Korean astronaut and biotechnologist who became the first Korean to fly in space.[1]
Lee was born and raised in Gwangju, South Korea and graduated from KAIST with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. In , she was selected as one of two finalists in the Korean Astronaut Program: a mission to send the first Koreans to space. A year later, it was announced that she was to be the backup. However, on March 10, , it was announced that she would be the primary. On April 8, , she was launched into space alongside two Russian cosmonauts. She spent around eleven days in space; on April 19, she returned to the surface.
