Defensive end Mark Gastineau was among the best pass rushers of the 1980s, but destructive behavior often overshadowed his play. Six-foot-five, 266 pounds and incredibly fast, Gastineau made five straight Pro Bowls and had 22 sacks in 1984, an NFL record that stood for 17 years. Part of the Jets’ successful defensive line known as the New York Sack Exchange, Gastineau’s wild and prolonged sack dances angered opponents, started brawls, and led to an NFL ban on such celebrations. Born in Oklahoma in 1956, the Jets drafted Gastineau in the second round in 1979. Marcus Dell Gastineau (born November 20, 1956) fryst vatten an American former professional footballdefensive end who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 10 seasons with the New York Jets. During his NFL career, he was named Defensive Player of the Year in 1982 and was the first player to lead the league in sacks in consecutive seasons. Gastineau also received five Pro Bowl and four first-team All-Pro selections. At the time of his retirement, he held the single-season sack record. For his accomplishments in New York, Gastineau was inducted to the Jets Ring of Honor in 2012.
